A Hack to Raise Your Confidence

adriennesay3

Nine months ago I was persuaded by someone very dear to me to join a women's networking group. Without thinking too much, I found my nearest group (in Clapham) and signed up on the spot.

A few (very friendly) emails later, I was set to try out the group and have lunch with a room full of networking pros.

All was fine until the morning of the event.

What shall I wear? Should I be suited and booted? No! That's not me anymore, but I need to find the right balance between yoga kit and ballgown! Much overthinking and trying on of clothes ensued.

Call it overthinking.

Call it self sabotage.

It was both of those and much more besides!

Anyway, so now, not only am I running a bit late and feeling hot and sweaty, I have not prepared my sixty second pitch!

I felt sick. I took something for anxiety, and jumped on the train with my notepad and pen, willing original thought and inspiration to jump into my head.

Did it?

Did it hell!

A women (I think she was just off a flight) sat next to me from Gatwick and fell asleep on my shoulder. No sixty second pitch inspiration came my way after that.

I arrived at the meeting, met some lovely friendly women and enjoyed a delicious lunch.

So, what's the take-away here?

I know I can present to a crowd, I used to do it ALL the time in my corporate job. I'm used to teaching large yoga clases. I'm used to holding space for others. But this was different and I felt so out of practise. Plus, talking about yourself and what you do as an entrepreneur is different and so much more personal.

Fast forward to yesterday.

I was invited to create a training for our session yesterday. I accepted willingly. I prepared it yesterday morning and enjoyed delivering it. No sweating of small stuff, none at all. Just a deep appreciation for those women there, how receptive they were and the lovely comments afterwards.

"I loved the grounding beforehand"

"Adrienne when you stand up, you light up"

Some of them will read this newsletter and I want to say thank you to them for their generosity.

So, what's the take-away here?

It's really really simple:

Step 1

Take the time to get really clear on what you want.

Step 2

Drop down into your body, into your felt sense. How does it feel to already have the thing you want?

Step 3

Take small right actions.

Make the call, take the walk, send the email, send the LinkedIn request, do the two minute meditation.

What is your small right action?

Remember to start very small. Consistent small actions in the direction you are going, is far more powerful than lurching forward and then stopping, then feeling guilty and ineffective.

(Talking of lurching - I have a whole load to say on that. Coming to your inbox soon)!

In the meantime.....

Just do the thing!

Could you do it right now? Or put it in your calendar for later today?

You've got this!
