To Meditate Or Not To Meditate Have you tried meditating? Maybe you have a regular practise? Or maybe you've dipped your toe in? Or maybe you've heard all the wonderful things about how it can improve your life, help you sleep better etc. but you just can't seem to make it consistently work for you? Either way, there's zero judgement here. My own experience is this ... I started meditating 20 years ago. But it wasn't a consistent practise. It seemed to be more accessible and easeful when life was ticking along nicely but when it wasn't, when curve balls fell out of the sky (and believe me there were many and some were HUGE!), that was when my practise ebbed away. One day at a time, it ebbed away until there was nothing left. So the practise that I knew served me so well, that was free and freely available, accessible anywhere, anytime that repaid my energy and my time x 100,000 simply slipped away. The repercussions were: - Scattered thoughts - Feeling 'wobbly' - Inability to concentrate or stay on-task - Lack of confidence - Poor sleep - Feel of tightness/restriction - Higher levels of anxiety So what to do? Firstly, understanding that although we read and see everywhere that meditation reaps huge benefits, humans always want to know "what's in it for me?" Is the effort and time expended going to be worth it? Remove the effort. Remove the striving. This might sound counter intuitive - how can I achieve anything without putting in the effort? But that's the point. Of course you need to put in the effort in terms of creating the time for yourself and the calm conditions and comfortable seat. But the rest... release the effort, that's where the really good stuff lies! We are all so different and understanding that is the key. What works for me, or the Insta influencer you follow, or Aunty Doris won't necessarily work for you. It's a highly individual practise that changes and moves just as we do. That's where I can come in as your guide. Do you want to feel: - Deep calm (even in a crisis) - More creative - More resilient - Better rested after sleep - More balanced - Deeper awareness - More joyful Why do I love meditation so much? I love it because it makes me feel good. It makes me feel good during the actual practise and the benefits are cumulative. It makes me feel EXPANSION rather than CONSTRICTION. Curious?
